English Phonetics and Phonology : An Introduction
This English Phonetics and Phonology: An Introduction is designed for a preliminary course on English phonetics and phonology. The scope of the book ranges from segmental (vowels and consonants) to suprasegmental features (stress, intonation) of speech sounds.
Attempting to introduce some terms and concepts used in the subject, the textbook is structured in eight chapters, in which each chapter includes a discussion on related issues, some examples, and exercises. After the Introduction in Chapter One, the next parts are systematized as follows: Chapter Two (The study of sounds), Chapter Three (Speech sound production), Chapter Four (Vowels in English), Chapter Five (Consonants in English), Chapter Six (Phonemes and allophones), Chapter Seven (Sounds in connected speech), and Chapter Eight (Suprasegmental features). The glossary and index at the end will make ease in understanding the content of the book.
