Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi: How Do Political Actors On Social Media Drive Public Interest And Participation?
The intensification of political actors on social media has reshaped patterns of public political engagement, yet the mechanisms linking these interactions remain contested. This study adopts a quantitative explanatory approach to examine the influence of political actors on political interest and political participation among residents of Bogor City and Bogor Regency. Data were collected from 404 respondents using purposive sampling and analyzed through linear regression and mediation analysis with PROCESS Model 4. The results indicate that political actors communication significantly increases political interest (B 0.559; p < 0.05) and political participation (B 0.316; p < 0.05). However, political interest does not significantly affect participation (B 0.033: p>0.05) and does not mediate the relationship, as shown by a non- significant indirect effect (BootLLCI=-0.0064; BootLJLCI 0.0439), revealing a direct-only effect. In the context of the 2024 Election in Bogor, participation appears to be driven more by impression- based and emotionally framed digital communication than by intrinsic political interest or deeper cognitive processing. This visibility-oriented engagement is often stimulated by affective cues and impression management rather than sustained political efficacy, highlighting structural characteristics of contemporary digital political interaction. These findings indicate the importance of developing more substantive and informative communication strategies to foster informed and sustained civic învolvement. Overall, the study enriches the understanding of contemporary political engagement by demonstrating that affective cues and online visibility play a dominant role in shaping public involvement, aligning with Communication Mediation Theory and Impression Management Theory in modern political communication
